NORTHSHIRE COMMUNITY COURTHOUSE

A Gathering Place

Our Mission

The mission of the Northshire Community Courthouse (NCC) is to preserve the former Bennington County Courthouse as an historic place to gather and engage with the community.

NCC is a nonprofit organization guided by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. It was formed to restore, manage and fund the historic Courthouse that is owned by the Town of Manchester. We are in the process of negotiating a long term master lease with the Town, which has agreed in principle to its future use as an asset for the community. The Preservation Trust of Vermont and Vermont Division of Historic Preservation have provided grants for a portion of this project. We will remain true to accepted principles of historic preservation.

“We’re thrilled to have an amazing team and the Preservation Trust of Vermont helping to launch this initiative. The significance of the Courthouse has been recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, and we welcome the opportunity to faithfully restore this wonderful building to its original purpose as a meeting place for the whole community.”

The Restoration Project

NCC’s vision is to revive and restore the former Bennington County Courthouse to its original purpose as a community gathering place. The renovated courthouse will be designed to complement existing community resources. Through thoughtful collaboration with area organizations, we hope to create a versatile venue for a wide range of activities.
